Administrative Message

Dear Middle School Students and Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year at Central Valley Middle School! We are excited to begin our seventeenth year of providing a student-centered educational program for students in grades 6–8.

This year marks the second year of our six-period daily schedule featuring 63-minute instructional periods. As part of a district-wide cost-saving measure, our school day has been adjusted. Students may enter the building beginning at 7:35 a.m., classes begin at 8:00 a.m., and dismissal is at 3:05 p.m. We look forward to providing engaging learning experiences that prepare students for future college and career success.

Our mission remains focused on creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment that promotes academic growth while supporting students’ physical, social, and emotional well-being. We will continue our emphasis on kindness, character development, and student engagement. While student iPads remain an important instructional tool, students will also continue to participate in meaningful writing and paper-based learning activities. Additionally, we will build upon our Collins Writing Across the Curriculum initiative through district Student Performance Measures focused on improving writing skills.

Central Valley Middle School remains committed to continuous improvement through the Schools to Watch (STW) process. Having earned our School to Watch Re-Designation 3 recognition, we will continue implementing recommendations from the evaluation team as we pursue Re-Designation 4 this year. The STW framework continues to guide our middle school philosophy, programming, and efforts to engage stakeholders while fostering pride and confidence throughout our school community.

We are also proud to have once again achieved Fidelity status in all three tiers of our PBIS program. As we enter our tenth year of implementing the B.R.A.V.E. program, we will continue teaching and reinforcing our five school-wide expectations: Be Safe, Responsible, Achievement, Values, and Engaged. Through proactive supports, interventions, and positive reinforcement, we strive to create an environment where all students can succeed academically and socially. We will also continue our partnership with Dr. Koch and the Psychology Learning Center, which provides valuable mental health services to students within our school. In addition, our BRAVE Warrior transition program will continue to support incoming sixth-grade students as they adjust to middle school expectations and routines.

This year also marks our seventh year as a Special Olympics Unified Champion School. We remain proud to be among a select group of Pennsylvania schools promoting inclusion through Unified Sports and school-wide activities. Building upon six successful years of Unified Bocce and inclusive programming, we will continue expanding opportunities that foster acceptance, leadership, and meaningful relationships among all students.

When students return this fall, our staff will be eager to provide a variety of engaging academic, extracurricular, and social opportunities that encourage students to learn, create, explore, and grow. We believe the coming school year will be both rewarding and memorable for our students, families, and staff.

Each secondary student will receive an electronic copy of the Central Valley Parent-Student Handbook. This handbook contains important information regarding school procedures, expectations, policies, and daily operations. We strongly encourage all parents and guardians to review the handbook with their child. Signature pages for the Parent-Student Handbook Awareness Statement and the Technology/Network/Internet User Policy will be distributed separately and must be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher by Friday, September 4, 2026. These forms acknowledge that you have reviewed the handbook and related policies with your child.

The handbook is reviewed annually as part of our continuous improvement efforts, and we welcome your feedback and suggestions throughout the school year. For your convenience, the handbook is also available on the district website.

As we begin another school year, we encourage every student to strive for excellence and challenge themselves to do their very best. By working collaboratively, students, families, teachers, and staff can help ensure that Central Valley Middle School remains a positive, supportive, and successful school community for all.
